November 11: Military Heroes
Today is Veteran’s Day – the day set aside to honor all those who are serving or have served in our nation’s military.
It is so easy to take for granted the rights we have and the liberties we exercise in this country. While I am the first to complain of all the political ads airing from mid-September through election day, I am indeed grateful the United States believes that free speech is a right and a privilege to be shared by all. And while I realize America is not perfect and there is much change that needs to take place in Washington, we do live in one of the richest nations in the world.
I am a-political by nature, and I do not intend this post to be anything more than a simple thank to those who selflessly give to our country so I can enjoy my freedom. It is because of their service that I have no fear when I go to bed at night, and I wake up in the morning free to go wherever I desire at anytime.
Two of my students recently graduated high school; they left their homes and their boyhood to become brave men of the military. Not a day goes by that I do not pray for their safety, and whisper a word of gratitude for their fierce patriotism.
They, as well as all those who serve, are heroes in my book.
